YOUR DONATIONS MAKE GREENER TOURS POSSIBLE!

$1 from every Beastie Boys US ticket sold goes to an ECOFUND
(with the exception of the Virgin Fest in MD)

ABOUT THE ECOFUND:

Beastie Boys are working to lessen their environmental impact on tour this summer. The $1.00 charitable donation included in ticket prices will go to an EcoFund with the non-profit organization ARIA (Artists Resources in Action). With this donation, ARIA will help the Beastie Boys plan an environmentally sustainable tour including offsetting the estimated global warming CO2 emissions from band, crew and gear travel as well as the powering of the concerts; coordinating BioDiesel to be used in the touring vehicles that transport gear from show to show; organizing a cell phone recycling collection program for concert goers at the shows; arranging for voter registration at all shows; coordinating local and national non-profit organizations to conduct environmental and social justice education and outreach at shows; and fund non-profit organizations working to achieve environmental sustainability.

CELL PHONE, PAGER, PDA and all related accessories can be recycled at every show! CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO AND TO DOWNLOAD FREE POSTAGE TO MAIL YOUR PHONE IN FROM HOME!

VOTER REGISTRATION AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS HAVE BEEN INVITED TO ATTEND EVERY SHOW.

BIODIESEL IN TOUR VEHICLES
Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel that is produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. For example, B20 is a blend of 20 percent by volume biodiesel with 80 percent by volume petroleum diesel. Biodiesel can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. It is is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. Biodiesel has demonstrated significant environmental benefits with a minimum increase in cost for fleet operations and other consumers.

Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions compared to petroleum diesel. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. Since it is made in the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans, its use decreases our dependence on foreign oil and contributes to our own economy. CARBON OFFSETTING

Even if you drive a hybrid car, use compact fluorescent lighting and take every energy saving step you can, you will still use some energy and create carbon dioxide pollution, which contributes to global warming. One way to do something about the CO 2 pollution you can't avoid creating is to purchase carbon offsets. Carbon offsets can be created by renewable energy projects like wind turbines, energy efficiency, and land use and agriculture-based projects, like methane abatement. By buying the offsets, you help these activities get financed and built, and their emissions reductions compensate for the CO 2 pollution you create during everyday activities.

ARIA will work with Clean Air - Cool Planet to purchase renewable energy offsets to neutralize carbon emissions and build new Native American and family farmer-owned renewable energy projects. By offsetting the carbon dioxide pollution that touring activities such as transporting gear, powering stages and band and crew travel generate, the Beastie Boys are taking a proactive role in fighting global warming and helping Native Americans and family farmers begin to restore sustainable homeland economies in balance with the Earth.

Projects that may be funded through this offsetting program include:

  • Owl Feather War Bonnet Wind Farm - Following the success in bringing about 25% of the turbine cost to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, funds are helping to build the first large-scale Native American owned and operated wind turbine, now in Phase II of the tribe's wind development initiative—the Owl Feather War Bonnet Wind Farm, a 30 MW wind farm being developed by the tribe for installation in 2008 near the town of St Francis on the tribe's reservation in South Dakota.
  • Alaska Native Village Wind - Building several new wind turbines in Alaska Native villages whose goal is to convert from 100% diesel powered electricity to the highest possible penetration wind-diesel hybrid systems. So far, three 100 kW wind turbines in Toksook Bay and three in the village of Kasigluk have been financed. All funds from the purchase of the projects' 20-year REC output will be used to fund a 2-year operations and maintenance reserve to help overcome technical barriers and maximize long-term performance in the harsh conditions in these villages, which are already being significantly impacted by climate change. Unused funds will be dedicated to further wind development costs, until the villages have completed their maximum feasible wind development.
  • Farmer-Owned Distributed Wind Turbines A recently concluded long-term agreement with Next Generation Power Systems, Inc., will support its sales and installations of German designed 40 kW Aeroman wind turbines that are remanufactured and customized for Midwest conditions. With up-front funding, turbine costs are reduced to an acceptable level. These turbines will help farmers reduce their long-term electricity costs, while helping stabilize the electricity grid with distributed, small scale power generation. Thirty-eight turbines are scheduled to be built between 2006 and 2007.
