WHY SHOULD I RECYCLE MY OLD CELL PHONE?
As of 2007, there are more than 750 million mobile phones waiting to be recycled in the US; either in drawers, or already in the waste stream. Another 150+ million or so will be added this year and even more next year.

LIFE ON EARTH DEPENDS ON WATER: THE THREAT IS CLEAR
Once in the waste stream, these devices may leak Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic and other toxic substances into the water supply. Municipalities often incinerate their waste, instantly putting these toxic elements into the air, and they return to earth in rain water.

MORE REUSED METALS = LESS NEW STRIP MINING
Recycling your old cell phone will keep it out of a landfill and will make materials available for reuse, including 17 metals that are captured, refined, and reused reducing our need for more strip mining to procure those metals.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY OLD CELL PHONE?
About half of the phones are destroyed (melted down and turned into pellets) and the other half are refurbished and repurposed.   We're working with a company called Collective Good which is dedicated to recycling old cell phones, pagers, PDAs and their accessories.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LEAVE MY MEMORY CHIP IN MY PHONE—WILL OTHERS HAVE ACCESS TO PRIVATE INFORMATION?
The phones that are destroyed are melted down and there is no way to recover any data left on those phones. The phones that are reused go through a screening process and are sold to reputable businesses in the United States. These companies are required to reprogram the phones and erase all data before they begin processing the phones for reuse. Collective Good has processed more than a million phones without a data privacy issue.

For more info on cell phone recycling please visit collectivegood.com. All net proceeds from cell phone recycling will be used to help build new Native American wind farms that will offset a portion of the CO2 from your drives to/from the concerts. Proceeds will be donated to CLEAN-AIR COOL-PLANET (a 501c3) who will purchase and retire offsets from NativeEnergy. For more information on Carbon Offsetting, click here
